1978, Japon
Motooka Hidenori was born in Hyôgo district and now lives in Kôbe in Japan. As a small child, he was intrigued by trains. He often goes to the railway station to photograph them, always front view, and then files the photographs with great care. As soon as a new model comes into service, he rushes to photograph it. He also works as a dishwasher in a hotel kitchen, taking his job very seriously.
Motooka Hidenori began to draw shortly before 1995. He shows trains from the front, crowding them together on photocopying paper or on the back of advertising leaflets. He has drawn nearly a hundred different locomotives from the local Hankyu line. Motooka wants to put all the models he knows in the same picture. In his more recent work, he has joined several sheets of paper together and compressed the vehicles so as to fit as many as possible into the available space.
